Serving People Overseas Changed My Life!
In July 2007 and 2008, I served on a two week volunteer "English as a Second Language (ESL)" trip to Sloka, Latvia. There we helped children, teenagers and adults know more about God through learning English and just having fun together--seeing God's love in action! These church camps are very popular in Latvia, especially since Latvia was under communist rule for approximately 50 years after WWII, and only gained independence from Russia in 1992.

We had approximately 65-80 campers of all ages both years, some of whom regularly and/or occasionally attended church with family members, and some who had their first exposure to God in church camps. Of this latter group, some were orphans. It was my time with these special children that awakened in me the desire to adopt.
I have been very moved by my experiences with short-term mission work. God has used these experiences to increase my faith, reveal His desire for my life, and to water seeds that He planted in my heart towards adoption many years before. I was never able to have children, am beyond child-bearing years, and a widow; but God showed me through my trips that there are so many children of all ages who have so little, and need love, nurturing and protection--and that I could give all of these things and more to a child. In fact, that child is no longer an orphan, but a beautiful 14 year old girl from Latvia, who is now my daughter, Katie--and I'm so BLESSED to be her forever mom! |

We’ll share the love of Jesus
with orphans at a Hannah’s
Hope Care home thru music or sports; a Work Project such as painting, cleaning, landscaping or building; or Evangelism thru a street ministry, VBS or bible studies.

Our Savior Lutheran Church is a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church located in South Windsor, Connecticut that shares the love of Jesus by serving the people of South Windsor CT, Ellington CT, East Windsor CT, Manchester CT, East Hartford CT, Vernon CT, Hartford CT, and Enfield CT. Our Savior Lutheran Preschool and Childcare is a NAEYC-accredited ministry of OSL, offering quality care for children age infant through 5th grade. |
