Adoption-related
Wild Swans Chinese history following three generations of women: the author’s grandmother, mother and self. Still at it from time to time.
The Lost Daughters of China (recently finished) Recommended. Part personal adoption chronicle, part historical and cultural survey helping to explain why so many Chinese girls are abandoned. A decent and helpful book. Note, though, that the author has a very “post-modern” spirituality blending some Roman Catholicism, Native American Spirituality, Buddhism and other “isms” to suit her own tastes.
Fields of the Fatherless (recently finished–re-reading to write review) Recommended. Compact, convicting writing on how to put faith in Christ into action by serving the biblically oft-mentioned “fatherless, widow and alien.”
The Connected Child I’m not yet finished, I know we’ve used things from this already. Very helpful things for adoptive and bio parents alike.
The Complete Bookof International Adoption--A Step By Step Guide to Finding Your Child. My wife read most of this. I read sections directly related to preparing for the trip itself, beginning the bonding process and “reentry.” It was very helpful.
