Thankful For Eyes That See

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Proverbs 20:12 Ears that hear and eyes that see– the LORD has made them both.

Today, I am again thankful for my “eyes that see.”  No. They are not perfect.  I’ve got a -11 and -12 prescription.  VERY near sighted.  I am at heightened risk for retinal tears.  I am also high risk for glaucoma.  BUT, with glasses and contact lenses I can SEE.  With yearly doctor appointments, I can keep up with the health of my eyes and hopefully spot and treat and potential problems.  So, I am very thankful.

God’s Amazing Work

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Not long ago I was visiting someone in the hospital while she was receiving her dialysis treatment.   The technician explained how the machine worked, drawing blood out from the body, pumping it through the intricate system of straw-like structures to essentially “wash” the blood before pumping it back into the body.  The machine moved a MASSIVE amount of blood in a short amount of time.  Sadly, I can’t remember the rate–but it was a great quantity at a rapid pace.

I looked at this machine on which the lives of so many depend.  It was roughly four feet tall, by two feet across by one foot deep.  It does what someone’s kidney’s can no longer do.  And then it struck me.  WOW!  People have designed this massive machine that does what the kidneys do.  the kidney’s are substantially smaller.  At that moment I marvelled once again at the creative power and wisdom of our God, even as I shook my head in dismay as I considered those who actually believe these complex bodies evolved in a step by step process entirely manipulated by CHANCE.

That, dear reader, is simply un-believable.

“Eyes, Ears and All My Members”

Monday, January 5th, 2009

In Luther’s explanation of the First Article of the Apostle’s Creed, he teaches us that when I confess God as the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, I acknowledging that He is the one who has given me “my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them.”

I went to the dentist this morning. (For the first time in a while.)  I got to see amazing pictures and X-rays of my teeth and got a good little lesson on the parts of the mouth and how it all “works.”  Amazing!  The more I learn about the human body, the more in awe I am of it’s Creator.  I thank God for my teeth, and I thank God for the Dentist through whom God is working to “still take care of them” today.

Proverbs 20:12 Ears that hear and eyes that see– the LORD has made them both. (We can throw in “teeth” too.) Don’t take one thing, one part for granted!
