My son comes in last night after a fun evening outside with his friends.  He pulls off his sandals and says, “Dad! You were right! “  He shows me his filthy feet.

In the children’s  message last week I asked the kids if they ever play outside wearing sandals.  What do their feet look like afterward?   How would they feel if I asked them to wash every one of their friends dirty, stinky feet?  “eeewwwww”  I proceeded to tell them that that is just what Jesus did to show his disciples his love for them and to demonstrate his heart of a servant.

Afterward, Jesus said to these disciples:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35

Thankfully, Jesus did not merely wash his disciples’ feet, but through His death on the cross, Jesus has washed away our sins through his precious blood.
