An Excuse to Get More Books!

I love this article–especially the last line.   Reminds me of the t-shirt my mom once bought me: “So Many Books. So Little Time.”

There and Back Again

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

I took a few days off this week to complete a project at home.  We replaced a carpet we (well, a dog and children) ruined with laminate flooring and transformed the room from our office to a dining room.  Readers will recall that I’m not a handy guy.  This project was a success–but it took me three good days to pull it off.  I enjoyed many aspects of the projects (surprisingly) but found it mentally draining.  I’m very glad to be back at work. :-)

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Today is the fortieth anniversary of my parents’ wedding.  Congratulations, mom and dad!  You have been a marvelous example of faith and faithfulness all these years.  We are all very grateful.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Today is my mother’s birthday.   (Yes, both parents were born in August!)  So Happy Birthday, mom.  I thank God for my mom who taught me (among many other things) to love reading, theater and words in general.  (She’s the type who always cleans up in the “Arts and Lit” category in Trivial Pursuit.)  Mom dragged us into the city occasionally to see a show, and I remember not being all that excited to go.  Cats?  Really?  People dressed up as cats dancing around on a stage?  It was, of course, an amazing experience that we eagerly repeated!   (She did strike out on that whole “dancing waters” thing, but that’s another story).  More importantly, with my dad, mom has faithfully demonstrated to me the love of Jesus.  She has told me that she has prayed for me throughout the years –even for the wife I would marry.  I am truly blessed.  I love you, mom.

Here are some pics I promised from a recent trip to the White Mountains with my sons.  We climbed three “4,000 footers,” Mts Willey, Hale and Jefferson.

Back Again

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Hi.  Last week we journeyed up to Bar Harbor for four nights spent with my brother’s family and my parents.  We celebrated my parent’s 40th wedding anniversary!  It was a great trip, though not exactly restful.  Some amazingly beautiful weather.  Some very special moments.  I’ll attempt pictures at some point.  (though I think I still owe loyal blog readers some shots from the camping/hiking trip to NH the week before.)

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Today is my father’s birthday.  I thank God for this man who has done so much for me.  He’s loved my mother as her husband for 40 years this month!   He baptized me.  He, (with my mother) continued to teach me about Jesus.  Among so many other things, he’s taught me to love life and the beautiful creation that God has given to us.  Happy Birthday, Dad.  I love you and am looking forward to seeing you soon.

Hi.

Monday, August 9th, 2010

I’ve been away on a trip to NH with my sons.  Great fun hiking in the White Mnts.  I’ll try to upload a few pics in the next couple of days.  In the mean time, I’ve got a LOT to do in a short amount of time before another quick get-away with extended family.  So sorry there’s not been much blogging here, but I’ll try to resume as soon as I can.

Thankful For Eyes That See

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Proverbs 20:12 Ears that hear and eyes that see– the LORD has made them both.

Today, I am again thankful for my “eyes that see.”  No. They are not perfect.  I’ve got a -11 and -12 prescription.  VERY near sighted.  I am at heightened risk for retinal tears.  I am also high risk for glaucoma.  BUT, with glasses and contact lenses I can SEE.  With yearly doctor appointments, I can keep up with the health of my eyes and hopefully spot and treat and potential problems.  So, I am very thankful.
