Here are some pics from our recent trip. It was so nice. My in-laws came up and watched our kids for a couple nights so we could slip away together.

Some Pics
Tuesday, July 13th, 2010Rainbow
Sunday, June 27th, 2010My kids came running the other night telling me to come look at the rainbow that appeared after a brief shower. Nice. The rainbow continues to remind us of God’s promise not to flood the whole earth again. When we see the rainbow, we are reminded of judgment and grace. We are reminded of the reality that we are broken because of sin. (Remember how God was grieved because people’s hearts were only evil all the time?) We are reminded that God is justly angry because of sin. (Remember how and why God flooded the earth to begin with?) We are reminded that God, in the midst of judgment is a God of great mercy. (Remember how he spared Noah and his family?) We are reminded that God will bring about a new creation in the end of days. (Remember the “new creation” the fresh start for Noah, the animals and the planet when they stepped off the ark?) Check out Genesis 6-9. See another application for the flood experience in 1 Peter 3:18-22
CT River Paddle
Sunday, June 20th, 2010I took my daughter out in the Kayak on Friday up the part of the river where the waters of the CT and Farmington Rivers mingle. It was a beautiful day and we saw some cool creatures. We saw a mother Common Merganser with six ducklings. I’d never seen one before and found them beautiful. I didn’t have a good camera on me (just my camera on my phone) so I don’t have a pic of them, but if you want to see what they look like look here. (The female with the brown head) Later we saw two muskrats frolicking in the water. When we got closer they scampered into their den under the roots of the tree.
Eaglesville Pond
Thursday, May 13th, 2010Here are some pics from a Paddle with my son last Friday afternoon. Perfect viewing for a dreary Wed.
Eagleville Pond Rating:
Animal Life: A.
Plant Life: B+.
Tranquility: D The first part of the pond was surrounded with houses. The Worst part, was that it is bordered by a sand/gravel pit. While you can’t see it from the water, you can hear extremely loud trucks driving around.
Over-all beauty C+ The farther in you go, the prettier it gets. But the start is rather “busy.”
Some Fun Too
Saturday, May 8th, 2010In the midst of all the learning and networking, we also get to have some free time. Some guys go golfing. Some guys take a much needed nap. Some go for walks or hikes. Some check out some local shops. I went kayaking with my brother. We had a few hours of free time on Tuesday afternoon. So, after lunch we drove further out on the Cape to Cape Cod National Seashore. We put in at Salt Pond. Then we paddled out into Salt Pond Bay toward the Atlantic Ocean. Great Fun.
Here are a few pics. A beautiful day.
Man-made Global Warming a Fraud?
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009Hacked emails between scientists (if real) reveal massive cover-ups, manipulation of data, and suppression of opposing views among Global Warming (aka “Climate Change”) scientists. See a Wall Street Journal article on the subject here. Science is often viewed in our culture as near infallible. A friend blogged about how similar the approach among scientists is to Global Warming and Evolution here.
“Pleasing to the Eye”
Monday, November 9th, 2009This never struck me quite like this before.
In Genesis two, the writer describes the trees in the garden of Eden as being “pleasing to the eye.” (2:9) Beauty is not “frivolous” to God. He is not concerned with “utility” or usefulness alone–but with beauty as well. He took care to make something that was especially “pleasing to the eye.” God is the original “artist” making things beautiful for the benefit of people’s enjoyment. When we create, when artists draw, paint, design etc. they have the potential to imitate God in making what is beautiful.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time.
Critters We Saw In The Smokies (More Trip Pics)
Monday, July 27th, 2009What kind of insect is THIS? And is that a stinger or an eggsack coming from behind?
Blue tailed Skink.
The only shots I could get of this Elk–from behind. sorry.
Two Bucks in the grass
Black Bear
A “Red Cheeked Salamander.” Great Smokey Mountain National Park is the “Salamander Capital of the World” and you can only find this type there. This salamandar “dropped its tail” because a snake went after it. Seriously. That’s its self-defense mechanism. What amazing creatures God has made!
